The Order of Covenant | Brothers, Who Are You Really Married To?

Marriage in the eyes of Elohim is a sacred, undivided covenant. Yet in so many households, especially blended families, we see a destructive, unscriptural dynamic playing out. A man marries a woman, promises to cherish and protect her, either signs a marriage license or a covenant, but the moment a conflict arises involving his children, his loyalty fractures.

Let us ask the hard, uncomfortable question that needs to be answered: Who are you actually married to, your wife, or your children?

If a man or a woman is not mentally, spiritually, and emotionally prepared to put their spouse first above every other human relationship, they have no business getting married. This unholy marriage is not the blueprint set in the garden.

The Sacred Order: Marriage Precedes the Children

Man’s modern sentimentality has twisted the biblical order of the home. Scripture is explicitly clear about where the primary earthly covenant lies:

"Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."— Genesis 2:24

Notice the divine decree: A man leaves father and mother to cleave to his wife. He does not leave his spouse to cleave to his adult children. The marital bond is a "one flesh" covenant; the parent-child bond, while vital, is a temporary stewardship until the child grows up and establishes their own household. The question one must ask is why are children, especially adults, allowed to dictate to parents who to marry? Why are they allowed to disrespect the spouse? And most importantly, why are they free from correction and chastisement.

When a husband allows his children (especially grown, adult children) to rule his household, dictate his emotional loyalty, or disrespect his wife, he breaks the covenant order. He has effectively demoted his wife and elevated his children into the place of a spouse.

Silence Is Consent: Taking the Side of the Offender

Consider a scenario that plays out far too often in broken households: An adult daughter displays blatantly disrespect, bad attitude, or dishonor toward her stepmother. The wife brings this dishonor to her husband’s attention, expecting him to lead, set boundaries, and protect the sanctity of their home.

What does the husband do? He makes excuses. He stays silent. He fails to intervene, sweep it under the rug, or tells his wife to "just let it go.”

Brothers, hear this raw truth: Neutrality in the face of dishonor is a lie.

When you fail to correct your child’s disrespect toward your wife, you have by default taken the offender’s side. Your silence is an explicit endorsement of your child’s wickedness. You are teaching your children that they can trample on the woman you swore before YAH to protect.

Scripture leaves no room for dishonoring elders, let alone a wife who holds authority in the household:

"Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy Elohim: I am YAH.”— Leviticus 19:32

"A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother."— Proverbs 15:20

If an adult child cannot show basic respect, honor, and deference to an elder and the matriarch of the home, that child is operating in rebellion, and a husband who enables that rebellion is an accomplice to it.

A Stern Warning: When YAH Steps In as the Judge

When a husband abdicates his duty to lead, govern, and protect his household from internal rebellion, the wife is left with no earthly recourse. She cannot force her husband to stand up, nor can she force a disrespectful child to yield.

So where does she go? She goes to the Supreme Judge of the Earth: YAH.

And this is where men need to tremble.

All too often, men naively believe that because they ignored the problem, it went away. They fail to realize that YAH actively sees the oppression, the quiet tears, the dishonor, and the unrighteousness happening under their roof or in their presence.

"For YAH your Elohim is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great Elohim, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger,…"— Deuteronomy 10:17-18

"If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; and my wrath shall wax hot..."— Exodus 22:23-24

"The eyes of YAH are in every place, beholding the evil and the good."— Proverbs 15:3

When an oppressed, dishonored, and heartbroken wife cries out to Elohim because her husband refuses to protect her from his own wayward offspring, YAH will answer.

And brother, when YAH steps in to correct the behavior that you were too weak or timid to address, you will not like the results.

His judgment is thorough. When YAH sets the record straight, He can strip away peace, humble the arrogant, break the pride of the dishonorable, and bring heavy consequences upon the household  or man that refused His order.

Repent and Restore Order to Your House

To every Brother and Sister considering marriage, especially in a blended family:

  • If you cannot correct your children, do not take a spouse.
  • If you love your children’s feelings more than YAH’s righteous order, stay single.
  • If you are a husband, stand up and protect your wife from anyone who brings dishonor into your home, even if that person shares your DNA.

Closing Statement: Do not wait for the righteous judgment of Elohim to fall upon your house. Correct the waywardness, rebuke the disrespect, demand honor for your spouse, and align your marriage with the holy Scriptures before YAH steps in to do what you refused to do.
