The Ultimate Double-Garlic Vegan Texas Toast
Ingredients
The Bread
- 1 Loaf thick, unsliced Vegan White Bread, Brioche, or Potato Bread: (Ask your bakery for an unsliced loaf. You want to slice this yourself into massive, 1-inch thick slabs).
The Double-Garlic Butter
- ½ cup (1 stick) High-Quality Vegan Butter, softened to room temperature (such as Miyoko’s or Country Crock Plant Butter)
- 4 cloves Garlic, very finely grated or microplaned (grating releases more of the garlic's natural oils than dicing)
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (creates a uniform garlic base in every nook of the crumb)
- 1 tablespoon Nutritional Yeast (gives it a professional, savory "parmesan-like" richness without dairy)
- ¼ teaspoon Fine Sea Salt (omit if your vegan butter is already highly salted)
- ¼ teaspoon Freshly Cracked Black Pepper
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Italian Parsley, finely minced
Instructions
1. Slice the Bread Thick
Using a serrated bread knife, slice your loaf into thick, 1-inch slices.
The Secret: Slicing it this thick is the only way to achieve the true Texas Toast experience, allowing the outside to get golden and crunchy while keeping the inside beautifully soft and steaming.
2. Whip the Garlic Butter
In a small bowl, combine the softened vegan butter, grated fresh garlic, garlic powder, nutritional yeast, sea salt, black pepper, and minced parsley. Use a fork or a small spatula to vigorously whip the mixture until it is light, fluffy, and completely uniform.
3. Slather Both Sides (The "Edge-to-Edge" Rule)
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Using a butter knife or offset spatula, spread a generous, even layer of the garlic butter on both sides of each slice of bread.
- Ensure you spread the butter completely to the very edges of the bread to prevent the crusts from drying out or burning.
4. The Bake & Flip
- Arrange the buttered bread slices in a single layer on your prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 6 to 8 minutes.
- Remove the baking sheet, flip each slice over, and bake for an additional 5 to 7 minutes. The edges should be deep golden-brown and crispy, while the center remains slightly soft and glistening.
- (Optional Professional Finish): For an extra-crispy exterior, turn the oven to Broil for the last 60 seconds, watching closely so the garlic doesn't burn!
5. Serve Immediately
Pile the hot, buttery slices onto a serving platter. Sprinkle with an extra pinch of fresh parsley or vegan parmesan if desired. Serve alongside pasta, a warm bowl of soup, or use it to make the ultimate vegan grilled cheese sandwich! Enjoy!
