Jewels of Wisdom | THE ASTROLOGY ILLUSION | Why Asking "What’s Your Sign?" Exposes Spiritual Depravity
It gets passed off as harmless small talk. A lighthearted conversation starter on a date, in a group chat, or at a social gathering: "So, what’s your sign?"
Most people smile and offer up their birth month alignment like a badge of honor. But let’s tear down the aesthetic and look at the cold, hard reality: asking someone "What’s your sign?" is not just spiritually treasonous, it is shallow, intellectually lazy, and a glaring sign of a mind in captivity.
When you ask that question or willingly answer it, you aren't engaging in self-discovery. You are participating in a pagan ritual that degrades human identity and insults the Creator. It is spiritual depravity!
1. It Is Indefensible Spiritual Divination
Let's address the root issue first. Astrology is not personality testing or light psychology; it is astromancy: divination by means of celestial bodies.
Scripture places astrology under the exact same condemnation as witchcraft and sorcery:
"Thus saith YAH, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.” — Jeremiah 10:2
The moment you consult a horoscope or align your character with a sign, you are engaging in an observer of times ('ōnēn) behavior (Deuteronomy 18:10). You are attempting to extract spiritual identity, timing, and compatibility from creation rather than the Creator. It is an abomination because it replaces faith in YAH's sovereign direction with reliance on fallen cosmic mythologies.
2. It Is Intellectually Childish and Immature
Stripped of its modern "spiritual" packaging, astrology is remarkably childish. It operates on the same logic as a playground game: Because I was born in November, I am naturally secretive and intense.
It is an absurd form of cosmic determinism that reduces the staggering complexity of human choice, character, and spirit down to 12 generalized pop-culture archetypes.
- It’s a shortcut for real discirnment: Instead of doing the hard work of getting to know someone’s actual character, moral values, integrity, and covenant alignment, lazy minds rely on a two-word shorthand.
- It’s an excuse for toxic behavior: "Sorry I exploded on you, I'm an Aries!" or "I can't help being cold, my moon is in Capricorn." Using a star sign to explain away arrogance, malice, or lack of self-control is the ultimate rejection of personal accountability.
3. What Participating in This Nonsense Reveals About a Person
When someone asks "What’s your sign?”, or worse, proudly advertises theirs, it broadcasts clear warnings about their spiritual and mental state:
- Spiritual Blindness: It shows they do not know who they are in YAH. A person grounded in covenant truth knows their identity was decreed in the heavens by Elohim before the foundation of the world (Jeremiah 1:5), not determined by where Mars was sitting during their birth month.
- Susceptibility to Deception: It signals that a person is easily swayed by trendy social currents. If someone will happily yield their mind to cheap daily horoscopes and pagan personality traits, they will yield to almost any subtle spiritual trap.
- A Desire for Control Without Obedience: People turn to astrology because they want to know the future or understand relationships without having to submit to YAH's Law, Commandments, or divine order. It is a desperate search for spiritual cheat codes.
4. The Final Verdict: Reject the Counterfeit
The next time someone asks, "What’s your sign?", don’t play along with the counterfeit.
Do not smile, guess their sign, or give them your birth date. Do not validate an ancient demonic system just to keep the peace or avoid feeling awkward.
Stand firm in the truth. Remember who you belong to, where your guidance comes from, and who holds your destiny. You were made in the image of the Most High YAH, not in the image of a constellation.
Why "What’s Your Sign?" Is Spiritual Treason
For Israel, the question "What's your sign?" isn't just a harmless ice-breaker, it is a direct drift back toward the very pagan altars YAH commanded His people to tear down.
It starts casually enough. A casual chat, a light conversation, or a dating app ice-breaker: "What’s your sign?"
We dress it up as personality profiling, self-awareness, or lighthearted fun. But beneath the modern aesthetic lies an ancient system designed to divert worship away from the Creator and anchor identity to creation. For the Hebrews, seeking guidance, personality traits, or destiny in the stars isn't a harmless habit, it is spiritual adultery.
1. YAH Created the Heavens for Order, Not Oracle
The Scriptures are explicit: YAH created the sun, moon, and stars with a specific purpose, and divining your daily mood or soulmate compatibility isn't one of them.
"And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.” — Genesis 1:14
The Hebrew word for signs here is ‘ōṯōṯ, referring to signals, markers for appointed times (moedim), directions, and agricultural cycles. YAH named the constellations and set their order in the expanse:
"Which maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.” — Job 9:9
"Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in his season?” — Job 38:31–32
Mazzaroth (the constellations) belongs to YAH. He numbers the stars and calls them all by name (Psalm 147:4). But astrology takes YAH's master clock and turns it into an idol. The moment you consult a horoscope, a birth chart, or a zodiac trait list to define who you are or what your day will bring, you swap the Sovereign Creator for the celestial canvas.
2. "Learn Not the Way of the Heathen"
The ancient nations surrounding Israel were obsessed with stargazing, omens, and reading the heavens to chart their destiny. YAH explicitly warned Israel never to adopt these habits:
"Thus saith YAH, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.” — Jeremiah 10:2
When Babylon relied on its elite class of astrologers to save them from judgment, YAH exposed the utter vanity of their practice:
"Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame…" — Isaiah 47:13–14
Astrology cannot save, guide, or redeem. It offers a false sense of control while blinding people to the real Source of wisdom.
3. Divine Order vs. Pagan Divination
Scripture distinguishes between YAH's holy signs and demonic counterfeits.
- YAH's Biblical Signs & Numbers: YAH uses numbers (such as 7 for perfection/rest, 12 for governmental order/tribes, 40 for testing) and physical wonders (like the pillar of fire or the parting of the Sea of Reeds (Red Sea)) to reveal His covenant, power, and righteousness.
- Divination & Numerology: Man-made or occult systems attempt to manipulate, predict, or unlock secret knowledge outside of YAH’s revealed Word.
YAH drew a strict line in the sand regarding all forms of sorcery and planetary divination:
"There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto YAH…" — Deuteronomy 18:10–12
An "observer of times" ('ōnēn) includes those who look to times, stars, and planetary alignments to determine fortunate or unfortunate days.
4. Even If It "Works," It Is Still Forbidden
The ultimate trap of astrology and false divination is accuracy. People often say, "But my birth chart describes me perfectly!" or "The reading came true!"
Scripture explicitly warns that demonic accuracy is a test of heart allegiance, not a stamp of divine approval.
"If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for YAH your Elohim proveth you, to know whether ye love YAH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul.” — Deuteronomy 13:1–3
Even if a horoscope hits the mark or a zodiac profile describes your personality traits with eerie precision, it remains an abomination if it draws your trust away from YAH. Truth is not measured by whether a sign comes to pass; it is measured by whether it aligns with YAH's law and covenant.
The Takeaway
Your identity was not written in the alignment of the planets when you were born. Your identity was spoken into existence by the Creator who formed you in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5).
Closing Statement: The next time someone asks, "What's your sign?", don't play along with the counterfeit. Remember who you belong to, where your guidance comes from, and who holds your destiny.
