The Sabbath Myth Series | The Buried Commandment | The Raw Truth of Deuteronomy 31:9–13

We live in a world filled with endless religious commentary, heavy prayer manuals, and humanly devised weekly Torah reading schedules.

We have been conditioned to accept an artificial, heavily filtered version of scripture, a religion where manmade routine replaces divine instruction, and man-made calendars dictate how we hear the Creator. Across modern places of worship, leaders stand up week after week to preach packaged lectures, follow institutional guides, and read small, isolated snippets of text.

This is not how YAH ordained His Word to be delivered to His people.

Yet, the most explicit, high-level structural command YAH gave regarding the public delivery of His Law is almost entirely ignored by modern assemblies.

For centuries, religious hierarchies, rabbinic traditions, and institutional manuals have buried one of the most explicit, high-level structural mandates ever given in the Hebrew Scriptures. In Deuteronomy 31:9–13, Moses delivers an absolute, unyielding command regarding the public proclamation of the Law. It is a commandment that shatters spectator religion, exposes the emptiness of manmade schedules, and strips away every excuse we have made for neglecting the raw Word of YAH.

Prepare to strip away the traditions of men and confront a buried truth that demands a complete structural reset in how we assemble, how we teach, and how we fear the Almighty.

When you read Deuteronomy 31:9–13, you uncover a raw, sobering truth that exposes how far human tradition has drifted from the Creator's explicit instructions.

The Scripture

"So Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi, who bore the ark of the covenant of YAH, and to all the elders of Israel. And Moses commanded them, saying:

'At the end of every seven years, at the appointed time in the year of release, at the Feast of Tabernacles, when all Israel comes to appear before YAH your Elohim in the place which He chooses, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing.

Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates, that they may hear and that they may learn to fear YAH your Elohim and carefully observe all the words of this law, and that their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear YAH your Elohim as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess.'"— Deuteronomy 31:9–13

The 5 Raw Truths Exposed

1. The Real Cycle: Seven Years, Not 54 Weeks

YAH never instituted a 54-week rabbinic schedule that chops the Torah into tiny, predictable, yearly bites. Instead, He commanded a massive, national public reading known as Hakhel (The Gathering) to take place once every seven years during the Sabbatical Year of Release (Shemitah) at the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot).

Why seven years? Because the Seventh Year is the year of rest, debt release, and total focus on the Creator. It was the designated time for the entire nation to reset, listen to the complete Law without distraction, and re-align their lives with the Covenant. Jewish leaders replaced this 7-year national assembly with a manufactured 1-year weekly cycle, substituting a man-made Torah Portion routine for YAH's appointed cycle.

2. The 48 Levitical Cities: The Continuous Blueprint for Teaching the Law

Moses specifically delivered this Law to the priests, the sons of Levi, and the elders of Israel (v. 9). But how was the Law maintained between these 7-year gatherings?

YAH did not leave Israel to wander in ignorance, nor did He establish centralized academic institutions or rabbinic academies to control knowledge. Instead, under YAH's direct command, the Levites were given no territorial land inheritance; rather, they were scattered purposefully across the entire nation, allocated 48 designated cities with their suburbans embedded directly within all twelve tribal territories (Numbers 35:1–8, Joshua 21).

"They shall teach Jacob Thy judgments, and Israel Thy law..."— Deuteronomy 33:10

"Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes... to teach in the cities of Judah. And with them he sent Levites... And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of YAH with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people."— 2 Chronicles 17:7–9

The Levites living in these 48 cities were positioned as local, accessible guardians and teachers of the Torah. They lived among every tribe so that daily, weekly, and ongoing instruction in the Law was constantly available at the grass-roots level. The 7-year public reading at Hakhel was the grand reset, but the Levites stationed throughout the 48 cities ensured that the living Word was actively taught in every corner of the land every single day.

3.  No One Was Excluded: Total Community Accountability

Notice the explicit instruction on who had to stand and listen:

"Gather the people together, men and women and little ones, and the stranger who is within your gates…"

YAH did not send the women away to cook, nor did He send the children off to a side room for entertainment. He commanded that the entire nation, from the elders down to the toddlers, stand together to hear the unedited Law read out loud.

• Women were not relegated to secondary status; they were commanded to hear, learn, and know the Law for themselves, and not ask their husbands when they returned home.

• Children were not shielded from the weight of YAH's statutes; they were immersed in the fear and reverence of YAH from their earliest years.

• The Stranger residing among them had to hear the exact same standard, establishing one Law for all.

4. The Purpose: To Learn Fear, Not Emotional Thrills

Why was the entire Law read out loud to everyone?

"...that they may hear and that they may learn to fear YAH your Elohim and carefully observe all the words of this law…"

The goal of hearing the Torah was not to receive an intellectual theological lecture or to work up an emotional high. The purpose was to instill holy fear and exact obedience. The next generation, those "who have not known it,” learned reverence not through human stories or light entertainment, but by hearing the actual, unadulterated words of YAH spoken into their ears.

5. Written by Moses, Entrusted to the True Levites

Moses wrote down the entire Torah and physically delivered it into the hands of the sons of Levi and the elders of Israel. It was the duty of the Levites and the elders to preserve, safeguard, and proclaim this Law.

When Jews usurped the identity of Israel and dismantled the Levitical responsibility, they replaced this solemn, 7-year public reading with rabbinic traditions, commentary books, and oral decrees. They hid the raw reading of the Law behind layers of human authority.

Why Is This Never Taught?

Because Deuteronomy 31:9–13 exposes the self-sufficiency of the Word of YAH.

• It proves that the common people, including children, were expected to hear the Law directly without needing a jewish clergy class to alter, soften, or filter it for them.

• It dismantles the man-made, 54-week "Torah Portion" schedules that keep people locked in a humanly calculated calendar.

• It shows that worship is not about spectator comfort, but about  assembly, total accountability, and unyielding reverence for the commandments.

The Reality: A Call to Return to Hearing the Word

YAH's blueprint was simple, clean, and powerful: gather the entire community, open the Book of the Law, read it out loud without taking away or adding a single word, and let the people learn to fear Him.

He never instructed His people to rely on a 54-week rabbinic Torah Portion cycle or a denominational order of service. He gave an explicit blueprint: scatter His true Levitical teachers among the 48 cities to instruct the communities daily, and gather the entire nation, men, women, children, and strangers, every seven years to let the raw, unadulterated Law echo into their ears so they may learn true, holy fear.

When we trade this divine mandate for manmade routines and Jewish calendars, we do not honor Elohim; we build a self-aggrandizing illusion of righteousness. We produce generations who know human commentaries and assembly agendas, but remain utterly ignorant of the raw statutes of Elohim that govern their covenant life.

It is time to strip away the human calendars, discard the denominational guides, and bring the raw, unedited Law of YAH back to the center of our families and assemblies. Let every ear hear, let every heart learn, and let Israel return to the ancient paths of covenant obedience.

The line has been drawn in the sand, Israel. You can no longer hide behind the comfortable routines of man-made tradition, rabbinic guidebooks, or institutionalized orders of service. The Creator did not give you His Torah to be chopped into convenient weekly pieces by human hands, nor did He command you to sit passively under the rules of those who usurped your name and identity. Stop following the Jews!!

The Word is near you. The ancient blueprint is clear. Strip away every tradition of the heathen, tear down the human calendars, and return to the raw, unedited, uncompromised Law of YAH with all your heart, mind, and soul. Step out of the shadows of religious routine, and stand upright as the true covenant nation you were called to be.

Closing Statement: The time for playing church and following man-made guidebooks is over. It is time to unearth the buried commandment. Tear down the rabbinic schedules, discard the Jewish weekly Torah portion, and return to the foundational blueprint of assembly, total community accountability, and unyielding reverence for the unedited Law of YAH.
