From Egyptian Slavery to Sabbath Slavery | How Man Handcuffed the Servants of YAH
We were delivered from the physical whips of Egypt only to willingly walk into the theological chains of men.
The story of Israel is a story of a rescue mission. YAH reached down with a mighty hand and a stretched-out arm to drag a broken, enslaved people out of the dirt and clay of Egypt. He broke the power of Pharaoh, shattered the economic machine of a tyrant, and gave His people a crown of freedom called the Sabbath.
But look at what we have done with it. Instead of it being a delight and a joy, it has become a dread and a disdain. The harsh restrictions and the foolish rules.
Over the centuries, the servants of YAH have allowed narrow-minded teachers, leaders, and Jewish religious gatekeepers to lock them right back up. We have swapped physical brick-making for religious rule-making. We have traded the hard-hearted foremen of Egypt for the modern-day religious taskmasters who patrol our homes, our kitchens, and our calendars.
We have allowed man to transform the ultimate monument of liberation into a suffocating system of Sabbath Slavery.
The Cycle of Servitude: Trading One Master for Another
In Egypt, the system was simple, brutal, and transactional. Your worth as a human being was directly tied to your daily output.
Exodus 5:9: "Make the work harder for the men so they will keep at it…"
When YAH delivered Israel from this soul-crushing grind, the Sabbath was instituted as a weekly strike against that very system. It was a radical declaration of social justice: on the seventh day, the master, the child, the immigrant, the servant, and even the farm animal stood completely equal. No one made worked. Everyone rested.
But human nature despises radical freedom. We are terrified of grace, and we are addicted to control.
When Israel began to drift, they didn't just fall into the open rebellion of foreign nations; they fell into the trap of micro-managing holiness. Scribes, Jews, and religious scholars stepped into the vacuum, creating hundreds of bypasses, fences, and man-made decrees (Takkanot) to "protect" the Sabbath.
- They defined exactly how many steps you could walk.
- They debated what form of transportation can be used.
- They decided that preparing a warm, nourishing meal to feed your children on the Sabbath was a sin worthy of spiritual condemnation.
- They decided that you couldn’t turn on a light-switch because it was igniting a fire.
And just like that, the trap snapped shut. The servants of YAH were handcuffed once again.Nowhere in the holy scriptures can any one of these rules be found. They have added to the word of YAH in their zeal to be more righteous than YAH.
The Handcuffs of Foreign Ideology
How did we get here? We followed the path of foreign nations, especially the Jews because some of our dumb leaders and people think they stole our culture, and also because of the pride of human intellect.
Instead of looking to the raw simplicity of the Commandment, we began to look to the philosophical and legal structures of the world around us. We allowed human intellect to dictate what "rest" looks like.
When we adopt the mindset that Elohim is a celestial safety inspector waiting for us to slip up and flip a light switch, we are not worshiping the Creator of the Universe. We are worshiping a pagan-style deity, a temperamental, hyper-sensitive tyrant who operates exactly like Pharaoh.
When you believe that warming up your food, heating your home on a cold winter day, or driving your family to a holy assembly violates the Sabbath, you have let man-made ideologies hijack your mind. You are no longer serving YAH in spirit and in truth; you are serving the anxious traditions of men.
Rest from Servitude, Not from Life
Let’s state the raw, unfiltered truth: YAH did not deliver Israel from Egypt to stop them from cooking. He delivered them to stop them from being slaves; from working each day without rest.
Nowhere in the holy scriptures did YAH banish His people for eating a warm meal on His day of rest. Nowhere did He stone anyone for lighting a domestic fire to keep their children warm. The famous warning in Exodus 35:3 against "kindling a fire" was a localized, direct command to stop the roaring, industrial smelting furnaces used to cast tons of bronze and gold for the Tabernacle project. It was a warning against carrying your weekday hustle into holy time, not a ban on basic human survival.
To turn a day meant for joy, family, and feasting into a cold, dark, paralyzing day of dread is to insult the work of the Deliverer. It is telling YAH: "Your rescue mission wasn't enough. We prefer the chains of Egypt.”
It is incredibly powerful when you realize that the heaviest chains are often the ones we forge ourselves in the name of religion, holiness, or righteousness.
The Sabbath was designed to be a sanctuary in time, a weekly, set aside time of pure joy, rest, and connection. But humanity has a tragic history of taking Elohim’s gifts of liberty and wrapping them in the barbed wire of legalistic control.
When YAH speaks through the prophet Isaiah, He reveals the true, joyous heart of this day:
"If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of YAH, honourable; and shalt honour Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words..." (Isaiah 58:13)
The tragedy is that you cannot delight in a day when you are walking on eggshells.
The Weight of Added Chains
You cannot experience the Sabbath as a "delight" if your entire Friday is consumed by an anxious checklist of man-made restrictions. When religious leaders and teachers add heavy, extra-biblical burdens to the law, they are not protecting the sheep, they are scattering them.
By demanding that the people of YAH freeze in the dark, eat cold food, or treat basic, life-sustaining movement like a sin, these leaders have done the enemy's work for him. They have made the commands of YAH look cruel, cold, and impossible. They cause the people to err, turning them away from the beauty of the Torah because they have painted YAH not as a loving Deliverer, but as a microscopic, nitpicking tyrant. You Brothers are going to pay for your betrayal of YAH’s people. Your surface-level teaching has caused the people to rebel against the Almighty!
But the scriptures are clear about the true nature of YAH's instructions:
"And YAH commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear YAH our Elohim, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is at this day." (Deuteronomy 6:24)
Every single law, boundary, and rest period ordained by YAH was engineered for human flourishing. The Sabbath was given to preserve your mental health, protect your body from exploitation, bring your family together, and anchor your soul in the sovereignty of the Most High.
Reclaiming the Delight
When you break the handcuffs of false doctrines, foreign ideologies, and the microscopic rules of men, the Sabbath naturally becomes a delight once again.
It is no longer a day of "I can't." It becomes a day of "I don't have to.”
- You don't have to run the corporate race.
- You don't have to work yourself to death.
- You don't have to eat cold fold in a cold house.
- You don’t have to walk around handcuffed all day.
Instead, you get to light up your home, prepare a warm, nourishing feast, gather your loved ones, and rest in the absolute assurance that your Creator is sustaining the universe while you rest.
It is time for the leaders and the Brothers to stop acting like Pharaoh's taskmasters. It is time to point the people back to the raw, unadulterated commandment. YAH's laws are light, life, and liberty.
The chains are broken, stop trying to put them back on. Step into the delight of the Sabbath and finally experience the true, uncompromised freedom YAH intended for you from the very beginning.
It is time to rise up, strip away the ideologies of men, and reclaim the raw truth of the scriptures.
The Sabbath is your weekly exit paper from Egypt. It is the day you look at the demanding, exhausting, transactional world and say, "You don't own me." It is the day you look at the religious gatekeepers and say, "Your rules don't define me.”
Stop looking to man to define the Sabbath day of rest and start looking at the commandment.
Unplug from the system. Warm up your food. Light up your home with joy, laughter, and light. Feed your family, rest your body, and worship the Creator in absolute joy and delight.
Closing Statement: The chains are broken, stop trying to put them back on.
