Building upon the discipline of the morning, The Table of Remembrance shifts the focus to how we sustain our bodies and honor our heritage through the act of eating. This challenge is not merely about nutrition; it is about transforming the table into a space of intentionality, where every meal serves as a memorial of the provisions given to us.

  • “When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless YAH thy Elohim for the good land which he hath given thee. Beware that thou forget not YAH thy Elohim, in not keeping His commandments, and His judgments, and His statutes, which I command thee this day." — Deuteronomy 8:10–11

Reflection for the Challenge

This passage highlights that the greatest danger of "fullness" is the tendency toward forgetfulness. The act of eating is not just a physical necessity but a spiritual crossroad. By blessing the Creator before and/or after the meal and keeping the laws as the "centerpiece" of the table, the meal remains a memorial rather than a mere indulgence.

  • Sanctified Consumption: Approaching food with a consciousness of its source and its purpose in fueling the work of the spirit.
  • Communal Connection: Using the meal as a time to strengthen bonds with family and the community, moving away from solitary or distracted eating.
  • Oral History: Utilizing time at the table to recount the historical accounts of our ancestors, ensuring that heritage is passed down to the next generation.

Weekly Objectives

  1. Preparation with Purpose: Dedicate time to prepare meals from scratch using whole, earth-grown ingredients (non-GMO, GE, etc.)  Avoid the convenience of modern processing in favor of the labor of love.
  2. The Silent First Bite: Begin every meal with a moment of profound silence and a prayer of gratitude, acknowledging the Creator’s hand in the harvest.
  3. Digital Fasting at the Table: Ensure that no phones, screens, or outside distractions are present. The focus remains entirely on the food and the people present.
  4. The Discourse of Truth: During communal meals, discuss a specific historical law or an account of our ancestors, turning the dinner table into a seat of learning.
