Hebrew History 101 | Who Are the Children of Israel?

This lesson explores the identity of the Children of Israel through the lens of history, prophecy, and the specific markers laid out in the scriptures. To understand this identity, we look past modern labels and focus on the lived experience and the divine "sign" placed upon a specific people.

The Children of Israel are the literal descendants of the patriarch Jacob, whose name was changed to Israel. They were a family that grew into a nation, defined not by a religion they chose, but by a bloodline and a covenant made with the Creator.

The scriptures describe them as a "peculiar treasure" and a "holy people" (Exodus 19:5-6). Their history is one of deep devotion followed by a cycle of disobedience, which led to the specific conditions we see in the world today. According to the scriptural record, they are a people of color who migrated through Northeast Africa, then eventually to the land of Canaan, and eventually scattered into the four corners of the earth through slavery.

Segment 1. The Prophetic Fingerprint - The Identifiers: Deuteronomy 28

Objective: Examining the "Sign" and the "Wonder" of Deuteronomy 28.

How do we find a lost people? We look for the "Signs" Elohim placed on them.

  • Scripture Focus: Deuteronomy 28:15 & 45-46
    • Key Insight: The curses are a sign and a wonder upon the seed forever. If you want to find the Hebrews, you must look for the people living under these specific conditions.
  • The Ship Connection: Deuteronomy 28:68
    • "And YAH shall bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I spake unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and no man shall buy you." (Deuteronomy 28:68)
    • Israel left Egypt on foot. The prophecy says they would go into "Egypt" (bondage) again by ships.
    • Historical Context: Research the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Who is the only group of people in history moved en masse by ships into a 400-year bondage?
  • The Yoke of Iron: Deuteronomy 28:48
    • "Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies... in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee." (Deuteronomy 28:48)
    • The prophecy specifies a "yoke of iron" around the neck.
    • Reflection: Look at historical archives of the American South and the Caribbean. The literal iron collars used on enslaved Hebrews (Blacks) are the fulfillment of this specific word.

In a court of law, if you don't have a DNA test, you look at the fingerprints and evidence. These scriptures tell us that the Curses are the spiritual fingerprints that would stay on the true Children of Israel forever.

Historical records and photographs of the enslavement of Hebrew-descended people in the Americas vividly illustrate the literal use of iron yokes, a marker not found in the histories of other groups claiming this identity.

Segment 2. Are the Hebrews "Jewish"?

There is a vital distinction between a Hebrew (a descendant of Eber and Shem) and the modern term "Jewish."

  • The Lineage of Shem: The biblical Hebrews come from the line of Shem. This is a Semitic lineage rooted in the regions of the Middle East and Africa.
  • The Lineage of Japheth: Historically and scripturally, many who identify as "Jewish" today are associated with the lineage of Japheth (specifically Ashkenaz, son of Gomer, son of Japheth).

We look to the very beginning of the post-flood world to see where the nations were assigned to dwell.

The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah... By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations." (Genesis 10:2-5)

  • The Identification of "Gentiles": In the Hebrew Scriptures, the word "Gentile" (Goy) often refers specifically to the descendants of Japheth. Scripture identifies their inheritance as the "isles," which historically and geographically refers to the Mediterranean coastlands and the continent of Europe.
  • The Ashkenaz Connection: Notice the name Ashkenaz in verse 3. He is a grandson of Japheth. In modern times, the vast majority of people who identify as "Jewish" call themselves Ashkenazi Jews. By their own chosen title, they identify with the lineage of Japheth, not the lineage of Shem (the Semitic Hebrews).

Hebrews are not Jews, and Jews are not Hebrews. Hebrews don’t have a religion, especially “Judaism.” While many groups call themselves the childen of Israel, and practice the religion of "Judaism," the scriptures point to a specific ethnic group that would lose the knowledge of their heritage (Jeremiah 17:4) and be treated as "a proverb and a byword" among all nations (Deuteronomy 28:37).

Why does this contrast matter? Because you cannot have two different fathers.

  • Shem vs. Japheth: You are either a Semite (from Shem) or a Gentile (from Japheth). The Children of Israel are strictly Semitic. Therefore, a group that identifies as Japhetic/Ashkenazi cannot biologically be the same people as the biblical Hebrews.
  • The 400-Year Affliction: If the people currently called "Jews" are from the line of Japheth, they are technically "Gentiles" by scriptural definition. The scriptures say the Hebrews would be enslaved by the Gentiles. This means the people in "Modern Egypt" (America) are the Hebrews, and those who held them in bondage for 400 years are the descendants of Japheth.
  • The "Jewish" Label: The term "Jew" has been used as a religious cloak to cover a Japhetic lineage. However, the Old Testament is concerned with blood, not just belief. A Japhetic person can practice the laws of Israel, but they do not become the "Seed of Abraham" by doing so.

We must ask: Which group fits the description of the "persecuted" and "enslaved"?

  • History shows that the Ashkenazi (Japheth) have held positions of power, banking, and global influence.
  • Conversely, the descendants of Shem, specifically those brought to the Americas in ships, have faced the literal "yoke of iron" and the 400-year affliction.
  • The Conclusion of the Contrast: The biblical Hebrews are a Shemitic, "Black" people whose identity was stolen by the "isles of the Gentiles" to fulfill the prophecy of Psalm 83.

Segment 3. Title vs. Truth — The Khazar Conversion

The term "Jewish" is a relatively modern adjective, but the scriptures speak of a biological reality that cannot be adopted through a ritual.

1. The Scriptural Warning of Identity Claims

  • The Definition of "Jewish"
    • The Holy Scriptures warns of those who would claim an identity they do not possess by blood. We discuss the migration of the Khazars (Japhetic) and their conversion to Judaism, contrasting them with the blood-descendants of Shem.

The Old Testament makes it clear that the "stranger" would inhabit the heritage of the Hebrews while the true heirs were in exile.

  • The Replacement Prophecy: In the ancient scrolls, we are warned that those who are not the seed would "appoint" the land and the identity to themselves.
  • The "Byword" Effect: While the true Hebrews were being labeled with bywords like "Negro" and "Black" to hide their origin, another group was adopting the name "Jew" to solidify their status in the earth.

2. The Khazar Migration (The Japhetic Path)

Historically, the people known today as "Ashkenazi Jews" do not trace their lineage to the tribe of Judah in the land of Israel, but to the Khazar Empire of the 7th–10th centuries.

  • The Conversion: The Khazars were a Turkic people from the lineage of Japheth (specifically the line of Ashkenaz). Living between the Christian and Islamic worlds, their leadership chose to convert to "Judaism" for political survival.
  • The Migration into Europe: When the Khazar Empire fell, these people migrated into Eastern Europe (Poland, Russia, Germany). They brought the title "Jew" with them, but they could not bring the blood of Shem.
  • The Contrast: This migration explains why the modern "Jewish" population has European features; they are the "isles of the Gentiles" (Genesis 10:5) who have taken on the customs of the people they replaced.

3. Discussion: Why This Matters for the Hebrews

If we do not define "Jewish" correctly, the true Hebrews, the "Black" people of the Diaspora, will continue to look for their identity in a religion rather than in their DNA and the scriptures.

  • Lineage is Fixed: You can convert to a religion, but you cannot convert to a lineage. A Japhetic person can follow the laws of the Torah, but they do not become the "Seed of Abraham" who was promised the land.
  • The Stolen Heritage: This "Conversion Factor" allowed the world to look at a European people and call them "Israel," while the real Israel was being lynched, enslaved, and stripped of their names in "Modern Egypt."
  • The Prophetic Fulfillments: The Khazar descendants have never been enslaved for 400 years by ships. They have never had the "yoke of iron" put on their necks until they were destroyed as a nation. Only the Shemitic Hebrews fit the physical and prophetic markers.

Reflection Question:

If a person moves into your childhood home and starts using your name while you are away at school, do they become your parents' child? If the descendants of Japheth moved into the identity of Israel while the true heirs were in captivity, does the Creator see them as His 'Firstborn,' or does He still look for the seed of Shem?

Segment 4. Psalm 83: The Confederacy

1. The Legal Theft: Psalm 83:3-4

We look at the scriptural evidence of a global agreement to hide the true Children of Israel.

"They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance." (Psalm 83:3-4)

  • "Thy Hidden Ones": Notice the language. The true Hebrews are described as "hidden." You don't hide something that is in plain sight. You hide the original so that a substitute can be put in its place.
  • The "Crafty Counsel": This wasn't one nation acting alone. It was a collective effort by the "isles of the Gentiles" and surrounding nations to ensure the real Hebrews forgot who they were.
  • The Result: By taking away the name "Israel" and replacing it with "Black," "Negro," “African-American,” and "West Indian," the world successfully cut the people off from their national heritage.
  • We continue to hide behind names that doesn’t reveal our identity: Freedmen, ADOS, Salaan, Foundational Black Americans (FBA), Blacks, Hebrew Israelites, etc. We are Hebrews from the nation of Israel - Twelve Tribes Strong.

2. Discussion: The "Jewish" Substitute

How does the Japheth/Shem contrast play into this theft?

  • The Conversion Factor: Historically, the Khazarian expansion into Eastern Europe led to a mass conversion to Judaism. These descendants of Japheth (Ashkenaz) took on the title of the people they replaced.

This specific historical development is the "smoking gun" that explains why the world is currently confused about the identity of the biblical Hebrews. To understand the transition, we must look at how the lineage of Japheth physically moved into the identity of Shem.

Segment 5. The Khazarian Conversion & The Identity Swap

1. The Historical "Middle-Man"

Between the 7th and 10th centuries, a powerful nation known as Khazaria existed in the region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea (modern-day Russia/Ukraine). These people were not descendants of Abraham, Isaac, or Jacob. They were a warlike, Turkic people descending from Japheth.

  • The Decision: Caught between the growing power of the Islamic Caliphate and the Christian Byzantine Empire, the Khazarian King (Bulan) decided to convert his entire nation to "Judaism" to remain politically neutral.
  • The Result: A nation of Japhetic Gentiles began to call themselves "Jews." When the Khazarian Empire eventually collapsed, these people migrated into Eastern Europe (Poland, Germany, Russia), becoming the ancestors of what we know today as Ashkenazi Jews.

2. Discussion: Title vs. Bloodline

This historical fact creates a clear distinction between a "Jew" by conversion and a "Hebrew" by blood.

  • The Adoption of the Name: By taking on the title "Jew," the descendants of Japheth (Ashkenaz) effectively adopted the culture, the laws, and the identity of the true Hebrews who were, at that time, fleeing persecution and migrating into West Africa.
  • The Prophetic Mirror: This fulfills the "crafty counsel" mentioned in Psalm 83. While the true Children of Israel were being scattered into the wilderness of Africa and eventually onto ships, the world was being introduced to a "new" Israel that looked like the people of Europe.
  • The Enslavement Test: History shows that the "Jewish" people of Europe, while they have faced their own persecutions, have never collectively fit the 400-year prophecy of Genesis 15:13 or the ships of Deuteronomy 28:68. They were never enslaved in "Modern Egypt" (America) for 400 years; rather, they were often part of the merchant class that financed the very ships that carried the true Hebrews.
  • The Scriptural Warning: The Old Testament is clear: the true Hebrews would be at the bottom of society, under the curses, while others would inhabit their identity.

This segment serves as the bridge between the historical identity swap and the lived reality of the true Children of Israel today. We must understand that the "bottom of society" is not a coincidence or a lack of effort; it is a divine judicial sentence described in the Holy Scriptures.

Segment 6. The Heritage Strip — The Divine Disconnection

  • Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 17:4
    • "And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee."
    • Lesson: The loss of identity was not an accident; it was a divine judgment and a "crafty" plan by the nations. This is why names were changed and languages were stripped during the Middle Passage.

The hardest thing for any nation to lose is its history and identity. Yet, for the Children of Israel, this loss was prophesied long before the first ship ever set sail.

1. Breaking Down Jeremiah 17:4

The prophet Jeremiah was shown the exact moment the connection would be severed.

"And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever."

  • "Even Thyself": This is a personal and national disconnection. It wasn't just that the books were lost; the people would lose the internal knowing of who they were.
  • "Discontinue": This means to pause, stop, or drop. The lineage would continue, but the awareness of the heritage would cease.
  • "A Land Which Thou Knowest Not": This points directly to "Modern Egypt” - the Americas. The Hebrews were taken out of their known environment and placed in a land with no familiar landmarks, worship, or customs.

2. The "Crafty Counsel" in Action

We must look at the mechanics of how this heritage was stripped during the Middle Passage and the centuries of "Modern Egypt."

  • The Erasure of Names: In the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament), names like Yahuda (Judah) or Lavi (Levi) carried the name of the Creator. Upon arrival in the Americas, those names were stripped and replaced with the names of the "Gentile" owners (Smith, Jones, Williams).
  • The Language Ban: To "discontinue from heritage," you must lose the tongue of your fathers. Enslaved Hebrews were forbidden from speaking their native Hebrew dialects, forcing them to adopt the language of Japheth (English, Spanish, French).
  • The "Byword" Replacement: Once the heritage was gone, the "crafty" nations (Psalm 83) filled the void with labels. You were no longer "Israel"; you were now "Negro," "Colored," or "West Indian." These are descriptions of a condition, not a nation.

3. Discussion: Why the Loss was Necessary

Why would the Creator allow His "peculiar treasure" to forget their name?

  • The Judgment: The "discontinuation" was the punishment for following the gods of the surrounding nations. To be free from the shadows, the people had to hit rock bottom, total identity loss, before they could be "awakened" by the Spirit. More like a rebirth.
  • The Proof of Identity: The very fact that Black people in the Americas are the only group of people who cannot trace their lineage back to a specific father, tribe, or king beyond the slave ships is a fulfillment of Jeremiah 17:4.
  • The Contrast: The Japhetic "Jews" have always maintained their name, their heritage, and their language. They never "discontinued." Therefore, they cannot be the people Jeremiah was describing.

To understand the modern landscape of identity, we must distinguish between a spiritual practice (Judaism) and a biological lineage (Hebrews). The Hebrew Scriptures provides clear warnings that the identity of the Hebrews would be sought after and even claimed by those outside the bloodline of Shem.

Reflection Question:

If a person has amnesia and wakes up in a hospital, they don't stop being who they are just because they forgot their name. If the Children of Israel 'discontinued' from their heritage, does that mean the heritage is gone, or is it just waiting for the heirs to wake up and claim it?

Segment 7. The Scriptural Warning — The Great Reversal

We now move from who the people were to where the people are. The Hebrew Scriptures provides a checklist of social and economic conditions that would only apply to the true seed of Israel.

1. The Warning of the "Tail" and the "Head"

One of the most profound warnings regarding the socio-economic status of the Hebrews is found in the contrast between the blessing and the curse.

  • The Blessing (Deuteronomy 28:13): "And YAH shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath..."
  • The Curse (Deuteronomy 28:43-44): "The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail."

Discussion: Look at the global structure today. The "stranger" (the Japhetic nations and those inhabiting the land of Israel today) sits at the head of the financial, political, and social systems. Meanwhile, the true Hebrews, specifically the Black population in "Modern Egypt,” remain at the "tail," despite their immense contributions to the culture and economy of the nations they serve.

2. The Identity Inhabitants: "Others" in the Land

The Holy Scriptures foretold that while the true heirs were in captivity, others would occupy their heritage and their land.

  • Scripture Focus: Ezekiel 36:5
    • "...Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen... which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart..."
  • Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 12:14
    • "Thus saith YAH against all mine evil neighbours, that touch the inheritance which I have caused my people Israel to inherit..."

Analysis: These scriptures warn that "heathen" and "neighbors" would physically possess the inheritance while the true people were scattered. This aligns with the "Conversion Factor" we discussed. While the true Hebrews were being taken by ships to the four corners of the earth, a different group of people "appointed the land into their possession."

3. The Condition of "Want of All Things"

The true Hebrews would be forced to go to their enemies for every basic necessity, ensuring they remained at the bottom of the social hierarchy.

"...therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies... in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things..." (Deuteronomy 28:48)

  • The Reality: The Japhetic "Jewish" community is known for its immense wealth, banking systems, and self-sufficiency. They do not fit the description of a people in "want of all things."
  • The Contrast: The Shemitic "Black" Hebrews in the Americas must go to the "stranger" for their food, their water, their clothing, and their education. This state of total dependency is a primary scriptural identifier.

Reflection Question:

If the scriptures say Israel would be the 'tail' and the stranger would be the 'head,' why does the world insist that the people at the 'head' are the Hebrews? Does Elohim’s Word fail, or has the world simply ignored the warning?

Segment 8. Modern Egypt and the 400-Year Prophecy

The prophecy in Genesis 15:13 speaks of a 400-year affliction in a land that is not theirs. While Israel was in ancient Egypt, the parallels to the 400-year experience of Black people in "Modern Egypt" (the Americas) are striking.

These people were stripped of their names, their language, and their Elohim, exactly as the curses predicted. They were sold as "bondmen and bondwomen," and despite their labor building the wealth of the nation, they remained in "want of all things."

Summary

We have established:

  1. Lineage: We are Shemitic (Eber/Hebrew), not Japhetic (Gentile/Ashkenaz).
  2. Transition: Jacob’s name change was the birth of a nation, not a religion.
  3. The Theft: Our identity was intentionally hidden to fulfill the prophecy of Psalm 83.

Reflection Question:

If Ashkenaz is the grandson of Japheth, and the Hebrews come from Shem, can an "Ashkenazi Jew" ever truly be a "Hebrew"? Or are we looking at two completely different families: one the oppressor and one the oppressed?

Segment 9. Conclusion

Understanding who the Children of Israel are is not an academic exercise; it is an awakening. When you look at the markers, the ships, the yokes of iron, the loss of heritage, and the 400-year timeline, the scriptures point to a specific people whose history matches the prophecy perfectly. Recognizing this identity is the first step toward spiritual restoration. We, who are called “Blacks,” “African-Americans,” “Negro,” “FBA,” “ADOS,” “Hebrew-Israelites,” are the true Children of Israel - a holy nation.

Elohim still loves you, Israel. The call remains the same: Choose Life, Choose Blessing, Choose Undivided Devotion. Repent, Return, and be free from the shadows of gross darkness.

I hope this blog post has been helpful. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below. Shalom qodesh qadasheem - the “set apart ones.”
