Do you find yourself constantly complaining about this or that? If so, you're not alone. Complaining is a common habit that many of us have. However, it can be a real drag on your mood and outlook on life. It may soon morph into pessimism or negativity.

Here's a challenge: If you're looking to improve your attitude and outlook on life, one thing you can do is give up complaining for a month. This may seem like a daunting task, but it's definitely possible. And, it can be a real eye-opener.

Here are a few tips to help you get started:

  • Be aware of your thoughts: The first step to giving up complaining is to become aware of when you're doing it. Pay attention to your thoughts and try to catch yourself when you start to complain.
  • Challenge your thoughts: Once you're aware of your thoughts, start to challenge them. Ask yourself if your complaints are really true or if you're just making a big deal out of nothing. Take a step back and reassess the situation.
  • Find something positive to focus on: Instead of complaining, try to find something positive to focus on. This could be something as simple as the beauty of nature or the kindness of a stranger. 
  • Practice gratitude. Psalms 103:2 declares: “Bless YAH, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.” This verse encourages active remembrance of GOD’S blessings. Focusing on gratitude and acknowledging benefits is a cure to a complaining spirit, which often arises from forgetting or overlooking the good we have received. They tend to dwell on the negative aspects and anticipate the worst outcomes.
