A Comedic Commentary of Proverbs 18:22 | Let the Eye-Rolling Begin!

Let's dissect "He Who Finds a Wife" with that promised dose of laughter, a grain of salt, a whole lot of real-life perspective, and a few well-deserved eye-rolls, shall we? Because "happily ever after" isn't a destination; it's a journey, and sometimes, that journey involves a few eye-rolls and a lot of laughter.

Scenario #1 - A Lost Wife

Alright, folks, gather 'round the metaphorical kitchen table, because we're about to stir up some ancient wisdom with a modern whisk. "He Who Finds a Wife" sounds lovely, doesn't it? Like a romantic comedy waiting to happen. But let's be real, if finding a spouse was as easy as finding your car keys, we wouldn't have so many dating apps and awkward first dates.

  • Eye-roll number one: The implication that "finding" a wife is indicative of she being lost. Like she's a lost sock you'll stumble upon while cleaning your room. Newsflash: Finding a wife is not haphazard; it takes intentionality. Relationships take effort from both sides. She doesn’t need to be found, she needs to be revealed, and that you cannot do without the wisdom of GOD.
  • Laughter moment: Imagine someone going about their day, tripping over a wife like they tripped over a rug, or accidentally stumbling into a lifelong commitment like they stumbled into a rogue shopping cart, or like they bumped into a great deal at the grocery store and just had to take it home. "Oops, there you are! Been looking for you everywhere!” “Girl, where have you been all my life?”

Now, let's get serious (for a moment). This proverb, at its core, speaks to the blessing of partnership. But let's not pretend it's all sunshine and roses. Our brothers under the guise of the New Testament mistreat their wives. They rule them in rigor. GOD never told man to rule over woman. Woman is independent of man whereas she has her own desires, goals, and ambitions. Woman wasn’t created to be a servant of man nor to be ruled by man.

Scenario #2 - A Man Without A Plan

  • Eye-roll number two: The assumption that marriage is the ultimate goal, the pinnacle of achievement without GOD’S blueprint (plan) for marriage according to Jeremiah 29 verses 4 through 6, is asinine. According to GOD’S commandment the man is required to have his own shelter, a source of steady income to support a wife, and a garden. Without these resources, marriage is setup to be a failure; to be a struggle! Nothing worst than struggle love.
  • Laughter moment: Picture a checklist: "Get a wife with a job, a house, and a vehicle." Like it's a grocery list. Some of our brothers actually seek women who are gainfully employed with a home and vehicle so that they can lay up, do nothing, rule over her and her property so they can “hold it down for the lord.” Say, what now!! All out of order!

But here's the thing: finding a partner can be a beautiful thing. It's about finding someone who complements you, challenges you, and makes you laugh (even when you're rolling your eyes). It’s not about dictatorship, submitting to a husband, or having his wants and desires outweigh those of his wife. It's about building a connection that brings joy, support, and a shared journey through life's ups and downs. It's not about some magical formula or a guaranteed path to happiness, but about the genuine connection and growth that comes from sharing your life with another person.
